Creativity · Meaning · Connection

The name Explore Your Life Story grew from a simple idea: there is power in exploring the story we tell about our lives.

A life story is more than a collection of events. It is the way we experience, perceive and make sense of what happens to us. It is shaped by our unique experiences, thoughts, emotions, memories, relationships, values and perspectives — and by the meaning we give to them.

Two people can live through a similar experience and carry away completely different stories. Our life story is therefore deeply personal: it is our unique perspective on who we are, where we have been and what matters to us.

What does it mean to explore your life story?

To explore your life story means to become curious about it.

Sometimes that exploration begins with a conversation — having the time and space to talk, to be genuinely listened to, and to reflect on something that matters to you. It can mean looking back at experiences that have shaped you, noticing patterns and turning points, understanding different perspectives, reconnecting with parts of yourself, or asking new questions about where you want to go next.

Sometimes we need to understand something.
Sometimes we need to express it.
Sometimes we need to see it from another perspective.
And sometimes we simply need space to pause and reflect.

Exploration can happen through conversation and reflection, but it can also happen through creative processes. Writing, drawing, painting, photography, music, storytelling and other forms of creative expression can open up different ways of thinking, communicating and making meaning.

Creativity with purpose

Creativity is an important part of the philosophy behind Explore Your Life Story.

Creative processes can help us approach experiences from a different angle, make connections, shift perspective, express what is difficult to put into words, or give shape to something we want to understand or remember.

This is creativity with purpose: creativity used intentionally for what it can help us explore, express, understand, connect or preserve.

Sometimes the purpose is personal reflection. Sometimes it is learning, growth or resilience. Sometimes it is creating something that carries a memory, an experience or a part of someone’s story forward.

The creative process does not have to produce a particular outcome. Its value can lie in what happens while we are creating — what we notice, discover, question or understand along the way.

Exploring what makes life meaningful

What makes life meaningful? How do we make sense of our experiences, find our place in the world and feel connected to the people and things around us?

These are questions that have accompanied me for a long time, both personally and throughout my professional life.

I believe that our experiences, relationships and the way we engage with the world shape the stories we tell about ourselves and our lives. Sometimes we take these stories for granted. Other times, a closer look can reveal things we hadn’t noticed before.

Meaning is something we engage with

I have always been drawn to approaches that take human experience seriously and recognise our capacity to find meaning, even when life doesn’t unfold as expected.

Viktor Frankl’s work on meaning has influenced the way I think about personal development and the choices we make in response to life’s circumstances. For me, this also means recognising that meaning isn’t something we simply find ready-made. It develops through our experiences, relationships, values and the way we engage with life.

The importance of connection

Another idea that resonates with me is Hartmut Rosa’s concept of resonance: the experience of being genuinely touched by something and feeling connected to the world around us.

I find this particularly interesting in a time when so much of life is organised around efficiency, productivity and constant availability. Sometimes we need to slow down, pay attention and allow ourselves to be affected by what we encounter – whether that’s another person, a piece of music, a landscape, an artwork or an idea.

Living between cultures, navigating change and finding a sense of belonging can make these experiences of connection particularly meaningful.

Creativity as a way of exploring

Creativity is at the heart of my work, not because I believe everyone needs to be an artist, but because creative processes offer ways of engaging with experiences that go beyond talking and thinking.

Writing, drawing, painting, photography and working with different materials can help us express something, explore an idea, make connections or discover perspectives we might not have reached otherwise.

My background in art therapy has shaped how I understand and facilitate these processes. I am interested in what happens when we give ourselves permission to experiment, follow our curiosity and focus on the experience rather than the finished result.

Creating space for what matters

Explore Your Life Story brings these interests together through individual mentoring, creative gatherings, learning opportunities and reflective resources.

Some experiences are best explored in conversation. Others emerge through making, writing or spending time with people who share our curiosity.

What connects these different activities is my interest in meaning, creativity and human connection – and in creating opportunities to engage with life a little more consciously.

Not everything needs an immediate answer or a particular outcome. Sometimes it is enough to pause, explore and remain open to what emerges.

Reflect.

Learn.

Preserve.
